BTX is the acronym I use as a file extension for BibTeXML files. BibTeXML is an XML DTD developed by a German student. It comes with an XSL stylesheet that converts the XML into regular BibTeX .bib files. This is tremendously convenient, since you can use standard XML tools for manipulating the data (the BTX file) which retaining compatibility with BibTeX.

I've extended the BibTeXML DTD a little. I've added a notion of "category" in order to subdivide the bibliography a little more.
