Visiting Nijmegen as exchange student
Coming as exchange
student for some months up to a year to Nijmegen has several
advantages. You will usually participate in a exchange programme like
the European
Socrates Programme, that will support you. They often offer
special language courses and have less restrictive language
requirements. If you attend an exchange programme, it is often easier
to fit the courses attended abroad into the curriculum at home. And
the local representative can often help you with every day problems
like find proper housing, or getting used to Dutch habits. And not to
forget, becoming an exchange student offers the opportunity to meet
other students from different countries. However, if you are intrested
to stay for more than one year, it might more profitable to visit
Nijmegen as regular student.
The first step you should take is making contact with the local
representative of the programme at your home institution and with
us. We then can give you information on how to apply for that
programme, and advise you with your courses. Lots of useful
information on housing, visas and other practical matters can be found
on the site of Nuffic, the Dutch
Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education. The International Relations Office of
the University of Nijmegen will also provide you with lots of useful
information, and are willing to help you with your questions.
