I was an assistant professor (or "lecturer" or "UD") in the Security of Systems (SoS) group at the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences in Nijmegen. My work in Nijmegen focused on information security and program correctness.

Before my return to Nijmegen I was a Ph.D. student in the Formal Methods group in Eindhoven. My "copromotor" (day-to-day supervisor) back then was Herman Geuvers; Jos Baeten and Henk Barendregt were official "promotor".

Research

- cidSafe investigates the conditions for establishing high-trust consumer identity solutions.
- JMRTD is an open source ePassport implementation initially developed together with many other people in SoS (2006).
- Wardriving: Wardriving in and around Nijmegen, together with Cees-Bart Breunesse (2005).
- KOA: Kiezen op Afstand, together with Engelbert Hubbers and Joe Kiniry (2004).
- TISHack: Penetration test of UCI's ISIS+/TIS/Kiss concern system, together with Cees-Bart Breunesse (2004).
- AutoJML: A JML Specification Generator, together with Engelbert Hubbers (2003).
- Payapplet: Source Code Verification of a Secure Payment Applet, together with Bart Jacobs and Martijn Warnier (2003).
- Java Cards: Some links to Java Cards and related devices (2002).
- Voting with smart cards: A demo developed for the ICT Kenniscongres <2001>, together with Cees-Bart Breunesse and Bart Jacobs (2001).
- Java iButtons under Linux: How I got my Java iButton to work under Linux (2001).
- Pocklington's criterion: Some files and links related to Pocklington's primality test, together with Olga Caprotti (2000).
- Interactive Mathematical Documents: A prototype implementation to transform Coq contexts into interactive mathematical OMDoc documents (2000).
- OM Calculator: An OpenMath calculator demo applet (2000).
- Reflection in Coq: Some small reflection experiments in Coq (1997).
- Lambda Calculator: A proof search program written in Clean. Based on Martin Bunder's algorithms (1996).
- Proof by Calculation in Lego: Some old Lego files related to my master's thesis project (1996).
I used to organize the weekly ICIS Colloquium. Adriana Birlutiu and Olha Shkaravska take care of the colloquium now.
The SoS group (and therefore my research) is associated with the IPA research school.

Teaching

Students

I supervised Kin Kaliisa's Ph.D. project, which took place within the Nuffic project Building a sustainable ICT training capacity in the four Public Universities of Uganda in cooperation with Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.
I supervised Martijn Warnier's Ph.D. project, which took place within the SAMASC project in collaboration with the Eindhoven Computer Science Security Group. Martijn succesfully defended his thesis on November 27, 2006.

Current Courses

In the fall semester of 2007 I teach the bi-weekly exercise session for the Bachelor-level security course, together with Chris Heunen. Bart Jacobs takes care of the lectures.

Past Courses

In the spring semester of 2007 I taught a two-week Bachelor-level course on Web-programming to students of CUCG in Sunyani, Ghana. Theo Schouten taught a course on Computer Graphics to the same group of students during that visit.
In the fall semester of 2006 I accompanied a group of students on a visit to Uganda in the context of the course ICT in a Different Culture (also known as "De Studiereis 2006"), together with Nicole el Moustakim, Ger Paulussen, Theo van der Weide.
In the fall semesters of 2006, 2005 and 2004 I taught Bachelor-level Object-Orientation (P3/GSS) courses for Information Science and Computer Science students. The exercise sessions were coordinated by Cees-Bart Breunesse.
In the fall semesters of 2006 and 2005 I taught Security in Organizations to master students Information Science and Computer Science. Teaching assistants were: Ichiro Hasuo, Kin Kaliisa, and Łukasz Chmielewski.
Together with Bart Jacobs, Martijn Warnier, and Ichiro Hasuo I taught Master's-level security courses for Computer Science and Information Science students in 2004, 2003 and 2002.
In the spring semesters of 2005, 2004, and 2003 I taught an OOTI course on Software Engineering, JML, and Java Card in Eindhoven, together with Simona Orzan, Joe Kiniry, Erik de Vink, Engelbert Hubbers, and Erik Poll.
In the spring semester of 2002 I taught T3: Semantiek en Correctheid, together with Erik Barendsen.

Voorlichting (in Dutch)

Als het even kan, neem ik deel aan voorlichtingsactiviteiten over onze opleidingen aan middelbare scholieren. Zie voor toekomstige activiteiten de site van het instituut. Zie ook de nieuwe iChallenge site.

Schoolbezoek (kort praatje op middelbare school): Meestal samen met één van onze studenten.
Algemene voorlichtingsdag (praatjes en demo's, meestal twee sessies op een zaterdag):
- Verschillende demo's die te zien waren op algemene voorlichtingsdagen.
4 VWO dag (meerdere sessies per dag):
- 2005: Een cursus modelleren van informatiesystemen (oorspronkelijk ontworpen door Stijn Hoppenbrouwers) voor 4 VWO-scholieren gehouden op 1 april 2005 en 31 maart 2006.
- 2001: Een Java cursus voor 4 VWO-scholieren gehouden op 6 April 2001 op de RU.
Proefstuderen (scholieren komen een hele dag "meedraaien"):
- 2004/2005: Een Security en Smart Card cursus voor VWO-scholieren geïnteresseerd in Informatiekunde/Informatica gehouden op 10 Juni 2004 op de RU.
- 2002/2003: Een Java cursus voor VWO-scholieren geïnteresseerd in Informatica gehouden op 5 Juni 2002 en 4 Juni 2003 op de RU.
