I opened as south with a weak two in spades and was allowed to play. I'm not sure how the first tricks went, but I do know that through some awful defense I reached this end position:
| J Q x x -
| |
10 x x x - - -
|
| K - K A x
|
A Q 9 6 - - - |
At that moment I knew that the spades were 4-1, and that I could claim my contract. It did't matter where the spade honors were. In this case I played the spade jack from dummy for the king and ace and I followed with the spade 6. West had to give me the last 2 tricks.
