Debian GNU/Linux is an
open source
operation system. It uses the
Linux kernel,
but
most of the basic tools come from the
GNU project. Debian provides more than just
an operating system: it comes with more than 8000 packages, precompiled software
bundled up in a nice format for easy installation.
Gambit is a collection of game theory software for the construction and analysis of finite extensive and normal form games. Further information on Gambit: home page, package page for gambit, package page for gambit-doc, bug reports for gambit, bug reports for gambit-doc, developer information for gambit, developer information for gambit-doc.
Pgn-extract is a program to extract selected games from a collection of chess games in PGN format. There are several ways to specify the criteria on which to extract: textual move sequences, the position reached after a sequence of moves, information in the tag fields, and material balance in the ending. Pgn-extract is written by David Barnes. Further information on Pgn-extract: home page, package page, bug reports, developer information.
Shane's Chess Information Database is a chess database application with a graphical user interface. With it you can browse databases of chess games, edit games and search for games by various criteria. Scid uses its own compact and fast database format, but can convert to and from PGN. Scid is written by Shane Hudson. Further information on Scid: home page, package page, bug reports, developer information, packaging on alioth.
