Hotels

The University Guesthouse only takes long term visitors (> 2 weeks). Therefore visitors of the university usually stay in one of the following two hotels:

A city center map with marked locations of the hotels is here.

Getting Around

How to get from Amsterdam Schipol Airport to Nijmegen

The most suitable way to travel from Schiphol Airport to Nijmegen is by train with a change in Utrecht Central. Both trains (from Schipol to Utrecht, and from Utrecht to Nijmegen) run every 30 minutes during the day. The price for the ticket is around 17 Euro for single trip and 30 Euro for a return trip. Train schedules can be checked at:

Important notes: ticket machines in the Netherlands do not accept Master Card or Visa cards, nor do they accept bank notes. You can use coins, international Maestro cards, or dutch Chip-Knip cards. You can also buy the ticket at the ticket office at the train station at the airport. Since recently getting on a train in the Netherlands without a valid ticket will always cost you extra 30 Euro of penalty.

Bus tickets

You can ride on a bus with a nation wide blue Strippenkaart, which can be bought at a train station, for example, at the book/newspaper store. Most trips within Nijmegen Center/University cost two stripes on the card. The bus driver stamps the card. You can also buy the ticket from the bus driver. Have some change available (about 2 Euros for a one-way ticket).

How to get to your hotel from the train station

Apollo Hotel: This hotel is within walking distance of the train station (see the map link above).

Hotel Atlanta: This hotel is also reachable by foot from the train station (approximately 800 meters walk), but it's also possible to take the bus number 6 (direction Neerbosch Oost) and get off at Plein 1944 (see map link above). The bus trip takes 3 minutes. Other possible buses that go to Plein 1944 from the train station: number 2 direction St. Maartenskliniek, number 8 direction Berg en Dal.

How to get to the workshop location from your hotel

It's usually fastest to take a bus from Nijmegen's central train station to the university campus. Closest bus stop is Universiteit/Oostzijde (just opposite the Huijgensgebouw, which is shown below), but Station Heyendaal is also within a few minutes walking. The entrance to the Huijgensgebouw is on Heyendaalseweg.

Travel times from the central station to the university are approx. 7 minutes by bus, but be at the central station in good time when going for the first time - the bus stop can be very confusing.

Faculty Directions (in English)

Apollo Hotel: There are various bus lines that you can take from the train station (do not confuse bus directions - the same bus can go in two different directions from the same stand):
Bus number   Direction
3   Wijchen
4   Wijchen
10   Heyendaal
110   Nijmegen
One of them leaves approx. every 5-10 minutes from the station.

Atlanta Hotel: Take one of the many bus lines from Plein 1944 to Centraal Station. Travel time is approx. 3 minutes. Alternatively, you can walk to the central station in about 10 minutes. Then see the above table for bus lines to Universiteit/Oostzijde.

How to get back to your hotel

Just take the bus (3, 4 (train station only), 6, 10 (train station only)) from the bus stop near the Huijgensgebouw's main entrance.
