Jan Schoone

"Sinds we god, religie en zingeving hebben afgeschaft, staan we als kwetsbare mechaniekjes in de wereld. We zijn gereduceerd tot onze biologie. We offeren het volle leven op om het vege lijf te redden, omdat het vege lijf het enige is dat ons nog kenmerkt."

Theorem: There are only finitely many useful numbers.

From October 2018 until November 2025, I was working as a PhD-student in the Digital Security group at the iCIS institute of the Radboud University. The research is part of the ESCADA project, conducted under the supervision of prof. dr. ir. Joan Daemen and dr. Wieb Bosma.
My research interests are algebraic attacks on cryptosystems, investigating properties of maps with cryptographic importance and masking against side-channel analysis.

During that period I was a member of the Works Council from 2019-2025 (secretary 2019-2021 and 2023-2025) and a member of the Works Council subcommittee (Onderdeelcommissie) for slightly more than two years.
My teaching duties during that time and during my studies can be found on my Teaching page.

My education was bachelor's and master's in Mathematics at Radboud University. There, my research interests have been finite rings, polynomial mappings and Mathieu-Zhao spaces. On these subjects I have written my Bachelor's and Master's thesis at Radboud University under supervision of dr. Arno van den Essen.
